Documentary about Cowboy Jack, which has toured the world's film festivals and is being broadcast nationwide on selected Public Television stations. Check your local listings. Now available at the Specialtees store ($19.98), the prize-winning documentary was made by the team of Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville (who have also recently done a great film about the history of Stax Records).

Jack takes participates in weeklong series of events celebrating the career of Jerry Lee Lewis. Whole Lot of Shakin': The Life and Music of Jerry Lee Lewis 2007 series will mark the FIRST time Rock Hall honors a living master. Cowboy will perform on the show and engage in a panel discussion. This is getting to be an annual gig --- last year he participated in the tribute to Roy Orbison.

In a whirlwind tour of windmill land, Cowboy plays several dates - Eindhoven, Oosterlicht, and at the club Paradiso in Amsterdam - and hooks up with The Watchman, a band he produced in 1992.

Jack participates in a festival along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia with Prairie Home Companion regulars Robin & Linda Williams and Jimmy Fortune, member of the Statler Brothers, recent inductees to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Documentary about Cowboy Jack, which had an advance screening at the Belcourt Theatre on 8/29/07, will have its broadcast première on WNPT, Nashville Public Television. The showing of Cowboy Jack Clement's Home Movies or SHAKESPEARE WAS A BIG GEORGE JONES FAN will coincide with the release of the DVD available from Shout!Factory.

Two graduates of Cowboy's College of Musical Nonsense, Shawn Camp and Billy Burnette, put out an album of Elvis songs done up bluegrass-style. So the music comes full circle - remember that the King's career took off when he revved up a Bill Monroe number.

One of the key ingredients and most beloved members of our musical world, Charles Cochran, was killed in a car crash . His keyboard and arranging skills contributed, beyond measure, to the projects of Jack Clement and his followers for almost five decades. He is pictured here (back row, 2nd from right) with Jack and various merry cohorts sometime in the early 1970s.

Cowboy appears on the world famous radio show for the second time in 5 months. One of the songs he does, the Clement-written Just a Girl I Used to Know, was coincidentally (almost simultaneously) also being performed on the Opry by Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton as part of Porter's 50th anniversary celebration. Before launching into his first number, Jack even gets a little polka fix in. You can listen to the show by clicking logo link above. One of Cowboy's latest protégés and regular band member, Shawn Camp, is a writer on a song nominated for Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards to be held in Las Vegas and televised on CBS May 15 - Would You Go With Me by Josh Turner. The same song is also nominated for Single of the Year, and another one of Shawn's tunes is up for a Dove Award. Not a bad year for the kid Jack dubbed "Boy Wonder".

Back in the summer 1956, Roy was the first act that Sam Phillips handed over to Jack, who did all the subsequent recording. The de facto producer of the sessions, Cowboy ran the board, co-wrote songs with Roy, and even played bass on some of the sides. On Sun, Roy had a pretty good hit with "Ooby Dooby", but rock stardom eluded him until he wound up with Monument Records, and his career took off. While in Cleveland to do the show honoring Orbison (who would have turned 70 this year), Cowboy is likely to find time to get a polka fix. October 28, 2006
